Aims & Objectives

The Deputies aim to:-

Run the Charity in a professional and ethical manner using qualified advisors as necessary.

Ensure that an adequate level of funding is provided to support ongoing needs.

Use the income received annually to provide charitable payments, for the ongoing administration of the Charity, for the security and welfare of residents and ongoing maintenance of Freemen’s Holt.

Ensure that the Charity’s assets are nurtured for the benefit of future generations.

Maintain Freemen’s Holt with continued investment in the properties to enhance their value and to provide a safe and secure environment for all residents.

To keep the 36 bungalows at Freemen’s Holt fully occupied.

To provide charitable payments to aged needy Freemen or Freemen’s widows living in the county of Leicestershire.

Are you interested in applying for a bungalow or charitable payment?

Retired Freemen or Freemen’s widows living in Leicestershire can apply to the Board for an application form for either or both of these benefits.

The Welfare & Pensions committee review all applications against agreed criteria. Two Deputies may arrange an appointment to visit the applicant. A report will be made to the next committee meeting where a decision will be made regarding the application. The Clerk will then advise the applicant of the decision.

All payments are subject to an annual review.

Where Are You?

We strive to keep our records up to date so that we can mail the Annual Report and copies of the Gildhall News to you. Please notify the office if you move house to ensure that we can contact you again in the future.

A database of Freemen and Freemen’s widows is maintained with the objective of providing information on an ongoing basis to possible beneficiaries.

The Gildhall News and the Annual Report are distributed to all those on the database. From time to time other information may also distributed to keep all Freemen and Freemen's widows updated regarding the Charity.

To encourage potential beneficiaries, several visits were arranged to Freemen’s Holt throughout the year for non residents. Lunch was provided as well as transport where necessary.

If you are a retired Freeman or widow and have not visited Freemen’s Holt but would like to, then please contact the office.
